Featuring 36 photographs, Simple as That marks Gabriel Lordello's second solo exhibition and opened on 16 May at Sur Gallery, Barcelona.
The everyday and the beauty of simplicity are the guiding thread of Simple as That, the exhibition that Brazilian photographer Gabriel Lordello is presenting at Sur Gallery in Barcelona, open from 16 May. The invitation came from gallerist Franquilandia Gonçalves, who selected this authored series to occupy the space of the only gallery in Spain dedicated exclusively to contemporary Latin American art.

The exhibition brings together 36 photographs curated by Franquilandia herself — an art historian with extensive experience in cultural management and museum mediation. According to the curator, Catalan audiences now have access to limited editions from a series that celebrates ordinary life.
"This is work that resists the artificial and the idealisation of bodies. In Lordello's images, childhood, faith and life in community come together in a composition attuned to nature and the urban periphery, reclaiming our earthly and mortal essence."
— Franquilandia Gonçalves, curator
A Humanist Gaze
With over twenty years of experience and a background in journalism, Gabriel Lordello began his authored practice in the 2000s, combining refined technique with a sensitive investigation of humanist themes.
"This invitation arrives at a vital moment, marking my return to focused authored work. Simple as That translates my essence: looking at the other with respect and dignity."
— Gabriel Lordello
Lordello's work draws from masters such as Walter Firmo, Luiz Braga and Sebastião Salgado. From this lineage he inherits humanist photography and the ability to create with the light and colour that everyday life itself provides.
The artist's presence at the opening in Barcelona was supported by the Espírito Santo State Secretariat for Culture (Secult-ES) through the Funcultura fund. Alongside the exhibition, Lordello led the workshop Conscious Photography at the gallery, deepening the dialogue around photographic practice.
